Bridgeport At a Glance
Bridgeport is not just known for its amazing parks but was once a center of manufacturing, jobs, and a thriving economy. For the last five decades, efforts to revitalize the city and capture its past have had significant starts and stops due to missed opportunities and what most will deem poor leadership. What makes Bridgeport a worthwhile value proposition is the diversity of its people and their resilience. By empowering residents to take ownership of the city’s future, we are finally in motion to take advantage of our built and natural assets. With one of the state’s only 3 deep water ports, waterfront vacant land poised for remediation and development and new industry sectors looking for strategic presence between Boston and New York City, Bridgeport is ready to do business.
Bridgeport Is A LEAP Community
In March of 2022, through the advocacy of Bridgeport Labs Inc, the US Department of Energy selected Bridgeport as one of its communities for its Local Energy Area Program (LEAP) This initiative, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, aims to help communities transition to clean energy, reduce energy burdens, and create local jobs. Bridgeport’s involvement includes efforts to develop community-led clean energy planning and address environmental justice issues.
Bridgeport, CT is also a designated “coal justice community” making it the ideal location to capitalize on grants and subsidies for communities that have suffered environmental injustice due to coal mining or coal energy production.
Finally, Bridgeport is also federally recognized as a “disadvantaged community” per the Justice 40 Initiative guidelines. These distinct designations have opened up opportunities for millions of dollars in funding for potential projects in Bridgeport, CT.
